During our workshop you will build, step by step, a Prusa i3. This printer is part of the RepRap 3D printer family and was designed by Josef Prusa.

RepRap is community project and also the family of 3D printers that can print most of its own plastic components.

01. Duration / Session Formats

Workshops are expected to be no longer than 21 hours, divided by two days:

       13:30 to 18:00
Groups may consist of a maximum of five people.

02. General Contents

  Saturday:

  - Welcome and Orientation;
  - Brief introduction to 3D printing;
  - Mechanical assembly;
  - Electrical assembly;
  - Adjustment and calibration;

  Sunday:

  - 3D Printer Firmware;
  - 3D Printer Software;

03. Methodology and materials

The attendee's laptop can have Windows, Mac or Linux operating system.

Participants will have access to theoretical information and practical assistance essential for a good understanding of the concepts and construction.
The necessary software for 3D design, Software to control the printer, and firmware for the Arduino Mega will be available. Besides the software, participants will receive:

  - All the tools required for assembly;
  - Hardware (threaded and plain shafts, bearings, printed pieces, screws, nuts, springs);
  - Complete Electronic Kit (Arduino Mega Ramps 1.4, Stepper drivers, Stepper Motors, Power Supply);
  - An extruder with "J-Head hot end" of 0.4mm (Gregs Extruder);
  - A heated platform (PCB Heatbed MK2) and glass with 4mm / 5mm thick;
  - PLA Filament 3mm (250gr) for tests;
  - An instruction manual.

04. Observations

Despite our best efforts, the Workshop may take more or less time depending on the enthusiasm and skill of each participant. There is the possibility that some participants are unable to assemble the printer during the weekend. Any group that cannot end its assembly are welcome to attend the next workshop.

Working with tools (soldering irons, pliers and other) presents risk of injury. Thus, participants will have access to the safety instructions at the beginning of the workshop. Each participant will be responsible for its own safety.
